November Sunrise on Mt Rainier
Hey there! Guess I'm the "new guy", though I know quite a few of you from other places. This is my first post to the NPN/PNWNP forum.

A few of us met up at Chinook Pass last weekend to catch an amazing sunrise. I've written about the morning in my journal. My only regret is that there simply wasn't enough snow to justify throwing on snowshoes. I prefer to get out further on the trails than we did that day, but it was just nice being there.

Welcome Jaimie, beautiful shot. I'm new here myself.
One of the most perfect days I've spent at Rainier started with sunrise at Tipsoo Lakes.
The pass is still open, eh? I haven't seen the 'closed' sign up on the freeway yet.
Looking forward seeing more.
Regards, Joe

Wow... my sRGB conversion got butched. Let me try that one more time...

They look the same to me.
Great light on the mountain

Beautiful shot!

Gee, I can't tell any difference between the two images, either. What are we missing?

Anyway, welcome!

Thank you, very much.

I had resized and converted the first image with the wrong Photoshop script and while my monitor was targeted for prints (low cd/m2). The second version should be "sharper" and punchier with better overall contrast.

The difference is clear in the color cast of the sky around the mountain top as well as the increased sharpness/contrast in the water. The second definitely has more punch on my monitor.

I'm curious - which one would print better?

Well, the first version would look better on paper. I use QImage for my final prints. It speaks directly to my printer to negotiate rasterizer parameters and sharpening.

Exactly what happened was this: I was working within a Photoshop workspace configured specifically towards printing, including both working color space and proofing color space. Consequently, I had also loaded the incorrect sharpening actions for a photo destined for the web. The output from this workspace is meant to be fed into QImage, not to a computer display.

Hope that makes sense. Basically, I wasn't paying attention.
