Hi everyone. I've been coming to these forums for a bit and checking out the awesome images. You all seem like a very cool friendly and supportive community. I finally got up the nerve to post one of my own.

I made this image last spring in the Columbia River Gorge. Image details: 10 mm, 1/250 at f6.3, polarizing filter. I had spent the day using a macro lens, then on a whim decided to try my WA lens just to see the results. With the camera only 6" off the ground, I had to shoot, view, recompose, and repeat until found compelling composition. I did very little adjustments in PS to this file, the saturated colors are there in the original.

About me. I live in Seattle with my family and two dogs. I bought my first DSLR (well, SLR too) about 3 and 1/2 years ago. I work for a software company as my day job. I like photography, crime drama tv shows, and beer. :-)

In case the image link doesn't work. Here's a link directly to the photo: http://flickr.com/photos/l3roy/467689830/

Cheers,
Jesse

Jesse,
Welcome and nice first post. I've tried the balsomroot shot from this perspective and none have come out as good as this. The dark part of the blue sky is a little distracting I presume from the good old polarizing or gnd filter.

Thanks Jesse and Erik. You're correct about the polarization.

Erik, since you're a moderator, maybe you can help answer a quick question for me. I wanted to ask you if it is a "no no" for me to post a link to one of my photos in some else's topic if my photo is related to the subject of their topic?

For example, I was at Kerry Park the same night as Bryan Swan's great sunset photo of Seattle and wanted to post a link to my photo (not the actual photo). Wasn't sure if that's allowed or considered rude here. The forum rules say no posting photos inside other people's topics, but don't mention links. Thanks!

Here's my photo from that night: http://flickr.com/photos/l3roy/3091366145/

I was probably standing right next to Bryan

I would say that it's OK if you get permission from the person who started the thread.
