1D2n, 600mm f4 is x1.4, 1/1600s, f6.3, iso 640. Slight crop. Minor cloning of debris under copyright statement.
Firstly, thank you all for the positive comments about my last post - I am overwhelmed. I've had a good week off work which has allowed me to explore my local patch in good conditions and I got lucky. Today, I had another shot in mind when this wagtail landed on a block of ice (not a rock) right in front of me. I managed several frames, but exposure was a nightmare!
Back to work now so less time for photography

Hi Ian
Nice bird with great detail, not shure about the perch even though ice is a natural one the shape of it looks artificial and I would not have guessed it was ice.

Thanks Colin. I actually thought it was a rock at first, 'til I looked more closely. What has happened is the pond has frozen and thawed repeatedly. Some slabs of ice have overlapped and this is simply one of those slabs.

Hi Ian,
Lovely composition and a great BG. A very nice bit of lighting hitting the head. Perch is different and looks a little unusual, nothing wrong with it though!! Would look good in B/W as well I reckon. Work just gets in the bloomin way don't it !!!!!
Good work thanks for sharing
Regards
Rob

Ian, this is gorgeous again. I think you've got the exposure spot on - still some detail in the black forehead (I think - on a different monitor than usual) and the light is again really good.

Nice one Ian, the exposure does look tricky but you have handled it well.

Very nice shot in what looks quite difficult circumstances. Interesting perch too - not seen ice that thick down here for a while!! I agree with Rob in that it might look good in mono too.
