Paper Birch, location

Folks,

I'm looking for a nice stand of paper birches easily accesible for my large cameras. I want to photograph the trunks and know there are good stands at Craggy Gardens Picnic area and at the "sunrise pulloff" just past Newfound Gap, but the latter have been carved on by tourons, and I need pristine bark for unretouched contact prints.

So I'm going to do a very, very unmanly thing, ask for directions! Anybody know of a good location?

Thanks!

Steve

It's been a while since I've been up there, but I seem to remember lots of paper birch on the trail to Craggy Pinnacle.

Greg,

Thanks for the reply. There are likely some there but the problem is that the Parkway is closed at Craggy Picnic area (South) and Mt. Mitchell (North), so the entire area is inaccessible until sometime in 2009 because of road construction/repairs. I would have loved to shoot there this year, but no go.
