As it's seems to be Bittern season
Just got back from my Florida trip. I managed to get a few decent images, this ones not one of the best just a bit different from the norm. His lunch is a Banded water snake, they had had a massive fight which took place in the reeds so I never managed a clear shot(although I think Richard may have  )damn it.

Better luck next year

Who needs a clear shot? This is outstanding, showing the bird in its enviromnent with a very impressive catch. I love it!

After watching and photographing this fight for 10 minutes all you could manage was this...?
Good stuff, as Ian pointed out I think the fact this shows behaviour and habitat makes it a very strong image. I've not even begun to go through mine yet having only landed back this morning myself. Once the jet lag is gone I'll get round to seeing how I managed with this fight to the death...see you soon :wavey:

Hi Colin,

Ian is correct, a great shot showing a bird in habitat and you have caught a great bit of behaviour.

Nice shot, thanks for sharing

Regards

Rob

Cracking behavioural shot Colin - almost monochrome/colour mix to it too which I like.

I can empathise with you, in wanting a more open/cleaner shot, but invariably such things are beyond our control.

As it is, you have captured hunter and hunted superbly in their common habitat, excellent shot.
