Pigeon Point
This was taken this last Saturday, the one day the fog finally decided to take a hike. It was a beautiful sunset...I posted a vertical comp taken a few minutes before this one in the Man&Nature forum (Vertical Comp version). At this point I'm unsure which comp I like best, but am leaning towards the landscape comp, although I like the light from a few minutes before a bit more. Of course your thoughts and comments are appreciated.
Canon 40D, 10-22mm, f18, 1.3", 2-stop grad.

very nice shot Greg but I think you can still work on the contrast a bit. I was there in Prescadero beach...not far from this place :-)

 Very nice, Greg. Looks like the weather, lighting, and overall sky made for a wonderful outing & sunset too.
Tough call between the two comps, as we photographers lean towards landscape or horizontal captures for viewing purposes, I'll stick with that as a safe choice. But, I'm sure there are more verticles hanging on walls in homes and offices then the horizontal configurations.

Greg,

Great combination of color, water motion and composition in the horizontal image. I prefer this to the vetical one. It captures more of the foreground water motion. Nice selection of shutter speed also. That is always a tricky thing to get right.

I want to shot more from the north of the lighthouse like this. I have shot mostly from the south so far.

Well that lighthouse is a hell of a lot better than the pathetic lighthouse I just posted. I like the landscape version the best out of the two. The overall balance of compositional elements and colors are very nice. Before I even looked at the vertical, I found myself wondering if the whites could be brought out just a bit more on the lighthouse structures... just to give it a little more separation like in the vertical. Not sure if that is possible without making it look odd though. Really nice work!

Very nice landscape Greg. Though I would say, this is not really a lighthouse shot since it is way back int he background.

Appreciate your thoughts everyone!
Debjit, you might be right on the contrast.
Eric, I might be able to, the problem though is the vertical was shot while there was still light on on the lighthouse, this one it had dropped past the horizon. Not sure how far I'd want to take it with that.

Greg,

A beautiful take on this CA classic. The colors are wonderful and the water action on the beach really works well in this horizontal. BTW, I think the horiz version is stronger.

I would agree with a slight boost in contrast; especially along the bluff area below the buildings. Otherwise, a beautiful seascape. Nice work.

I like your vertical in M&N better. I like the line of the water leading me to the lighthouse.

Both are very nice but I think I like the vertical one a bit better, also the processing or the light is nice on the vertical. It is nice to see a local sky with clouds and no fog

Thanks for your input Lon, Dan, and Enrique.
