So every now and again when I'm working in photoshop I will end up with the little hand symbol and no matter what tool I select it won't change from the hand symbol to let me actually use any tools.
The only way I know of to get it back to normal is to delete the preferences file. Bummer with that is I lose some of the settings I have.
Is there some other way to fix that, or does anyone know why that happens from time to time?
Thanks for any thoughts
Kevin

Sounds to me like the space bar on your keyboard is getting stuck. Try tapping it a few times and see if it switches back to the tool you were using before.

I agree with Nat "spacebar" the hand allows you to move your image around the screen when the space bar is depressed

I would test it by seeing if you have the hand function while this happening. That is, can you move a picture (larger than the viewing area) around with just the mouse and left button down. If so, it's likely the keyboard, if not, it's something else.
