Great close up Ben but a little tight in the frame for me.The shallow depth of field has lost some of the nice bits in the body which I reckon comes out really well on Fieldfares . The low POV has brought out the stuff in front of the bird a little too much maybe. Especially this time of year with the grass being longer.
I tried this kind of angle last week on these and ended up raising the hide hole about 14 inches. Mine were actually getting lost behind big Newton Wonders !
However every one has different views and prefs..and this is just my personal opinion.
Good stuff though.
Cheers

I like this a lot Ben, great viewpoint, but I would prefer more DOF.
Very nice and I am not sure if I agreed about the DOF, as a 40D user a quick question, who does the 50D cope with higher ISO? Sometimes I think ISO bracketing where the speed stays the same and the DOF and iso change would be good.
Anyway I sure you will get allot more oportunities in your new hide
All the best

Thanks for the comments everyone. struggling for light under the trees jon so f4 needed really.
ian 50D is better than 30d in my book but not as good as i was hoping iso 800 is about the max you can push it for wildlife however even in these conditions under the trees at iso 400 i am still getting 1/500th in the morning light at f4 so enough to capture movement, thats on the 500mm.

Nice one. The viewpoint is great but I also would prefer a little bit more DOF.

A little tight in the frame for me. Looks like a promising set up though. Look forward to seeing more results.
