Hi Guys,
This morning I had my first encounter with the local wild fallow herd. This shot isn't great cos the lighting was all wrong, i just had time to grab it before they bolted. I just thought I'd post it because with any luck, there'll be many more to come! I'm going to get out earlier tomorrow with the bag hide and see what I can get!
cheers
Billy

Billy looks a bit sepia toned to me on my screen.
Did you have your WB set correctly?

With wild deer you have to grab what shots you can. I'm lucky to have both wild Red and wild Fallow Deer fairly local to me and they've become a passion of mine. Of course I could get prettier photos by going to a deer park but it's just not the same experience IMHO.
I hope you don' me passing on a few tips and wrinkles?
1) Don't expect to be able to sit there in a bag hide and have the deer not notice you because I can assure you that they will notice that there's something new and odd in their environment. If you want to conceal yourself then dense natural cover is best although that's hard to find this time of year.
2) The more you learn about the local terrain and the places the deer prefer to congregate the better your chances of getting closer will be.
3) Most important of all is the wind direction. You must be downwind at all times.
Good luck.

Thanks for the comments guys, and Paul, thanks for the tips!
Major, I was shooting into the sun (just out of frame top left) which explains the orange colour cast. I tried removing it in PS, but it never looked right so I thought I'd leave it as is. This was never going to win anything, Its just my first ever shot of wild deer so I thought I'd post it.
