A Winter Sunset Scene (c)
This was taken a few weeks ago as the sun set at the rear of the Centre.

What do you think

This is more or less straight from the camera with a slight crop to frame.

Thanks for looking :toast:

Hi Vincent. I like the idea but it doesn't quite come off. From the shape its quite difficult to see that its a Barn Owl and the bird is so dark that you don't get enough visual cues to establish immediately what it is. Just needs brightening up a bit to bring up just a little detail (especially the dark eye area) on the bird - then it works fine.

You should get Tim to send you his D3 - would be just the job for this type of shot

I love it as it is. Well done Vince.

Hi Vince,

Doesn't quite work for me if I'm honest, mainly for the reasons John mentioned.
Perhaps just a little more detail in the shadowy bird would work well, i.e. more of a semi-silhouette.

Hi Vince,

Love the sunset colours but would prefer more dof in the scene rather than just the outline of the Owl - using f/11 there would have been plenty of scope to achieve that. Cliff

Two exposures required, or a tiny amount of fill flash maybe or a silhouetted mouse in its beak?
Nice sunset.

Nice idea and colours Vince but agree a more 'recognisable' silhouette would improve this, as perhaps would the inclusion of the base of the perch in that silhouette - the owl looks like it is floating on the scene a little
