Ice Storm Macro
I posted this in the Flora gallery as well. So far I'm liking this new 50D, which arrived on Wednesday - just in time for the ice storm!

Canon 50D/Kirk L-bracket, EF 100/2.8 Macro USM, Bogen 3221/Kirk BH-3, remote release, f/16 at 1 second, ISO 100, crop off right side.

Having grown up in New England, and transplanted to the Pacific NW. This shot reminds me of how beautiful the ice storms are. Thanks for this fantastic shot Jim, the texture and shape of the ice is spectacular.

OMG Jim, this is stunning!! I guess the camera works alright... I am really impressed!! Also...what is it? A tree branch? Keep them coming!!

We were supposed to get 6-12 inches of snow but after about 3 inches we got freezing rain too. Never lost my power though. One of the lucky ones.

Chris asked:
Also...what is it? A tree branch?
Yes, it's a tiny branch on a shrub in front our house, actual size is about an inch across.

Thanks for looking and commenting!

At last some ice pictures!! I agree that this is a great shot and it also reminds me of a serpent!!

I've been in California all week and will not get home until late Sunday night, I suspect the ice will be gone by the time I can get a camera in my hand :frown:

Nice eye on this shot Jim!!

Wow, that is really cool. Way to take a bad ice storm and make something beautiful of it! Congrats on your new camera...I just got one, too! Sharon

Neat shot...love the curves, patterns and detail in this...just exceptional.

Glad you got out and shot during the storm. With no power and the fear of none for a while, I shut down my house and went up north to friends. Just got back today, and can't believe the scene down here...though we have power and heat, few do, and may not yet for many days. Feeling fortunate today...

Thanks to all for commenting!

We still have no power, but had cable for a while on Saturday when I posted this. Cable has been out again since Saturday night and now I'm logging on with the laptop from our Derry apartment, which we have until the end of the month.

Yes, this looks like an Ice Snake to me too and is one of the better photos I've taken in a while. I'm looking forward to having power and cable back and getting back out to enjoy photography again!
