Autumn at the Edge of a Blvd
Here is one I shot last night. Not my usual style but I tried.
shot at 40mm w/ the 17-40mm. I'm surprised at how sharp it is(raw). I would like to know if this one sucks and you don't have to be nice about it either, just honest. I think there is too much going on.

Steve,

I think I like it overall. This scene could be anywhere along a hike in the woods, etc... The color variation, the reeds next to the trees and the tree trunk itself make for a pleasing composition.

I am glad to see reports of sharpness from the 17-40L since I just purchased it for my new 5D II. I had a few initial problems with it while shoting at night. I was unaware of the funky infinity focus (past infinity actually). But I think I will get used to it with a little practice.

It doesn't suck Steve. I like the converging vertical lines in this. Unconventional use of elements that works well IMO

Steve, this works very nicely, so, I think your idea and observation of the scene was very good and technically captured very well too.
Typically, I do not like any dramatic "weeding", "seeding", and "kneeding", but in this case the "weeding" of the one errant branch would have been very acceptable IMO.

Hi Steve,

It isn't doing a whole lot for me.

Thanks for your honest feedback guys. I missed a magic moment earlier in the evening and this was product of driving wishing I got something earlier.

Hmmm... I kind of like it. It has a nice mixture of colors, lines and textures. I do kind of wish I could see over the fg grasses and tails a little more so that my eye could easily explore the fallen leaves in the middle ground. I'm not sure that would be compositionally possible without creating too much disruption though. I think this is one of those images that would have much more impact printed larger so the viewer can soak in some of the finer details.
