One of my favorite places to go too on the ocean that is close, if 2 hours is close...:) A nice high tide that lets some larger waves in over the sand bars was nice, and the sinking sun. Comments appreciated, comp wise and processing. :)

Hi Cliff. I really like this image. The swirl of water around the bottom tree trunk is great. The water is a nice combination of sharp in some places and blurred just enough to show motion down in the lower part of the image. What was your shutter speed?
I do find the blown out sun in the top right to be distracting. A GND may have been helpful here. You could also use PS to clone in clouds, if you don't have any ethical issues manipulating your photos. I personally don't mind manipulation like that so long as the photographer is truthful about it.

I used a polarizer and even with a gnd the sun is still going to be the sun, very bright. If i had cloned in clouds, i think it may look a little funny with the nice reflected light on the water from the sun, but i have to admit, Jesse, i had thought about it. :) I metered the sky near the tree for the exposure, then dodged a few areas. Canon 5D, f/22, 1/6 second at 24mm with i believe a 24-70 2.8 L lens.
This looks like a promising location, but the light just isn't doing you any favors here. If you have any bracketed shots for the blown out sky, you could probably pull this off as a B&W. As it is now the sky is just too hot for me.
I'm a sucker for solitary trees near the ocean though. I'd like to see a second effort under more favorable conditions.

I actually think that this came out pretty good excepting the washed out sun area. Cloning in some clouds might be an idea but that might not be to your liking. I almost think it'd be easier to crop to the bottom of the washed out area and clone the top of the leftmost tree so it doesn't look chopped off.
In the end, a second effort might be best.

I think the previous comments caught all my nits so I'll skip that bit. What I LIKE is the light on the water, the overall composition and the choice of shutter speed. I advise many more trips to this fine spot!
Wonderfully wintery bleak, still with great light and wave action. I like it.

I took the advice and cloned the sun out and it looks pretty good with it out and just clouds there, also lightened a few areas some more, i tried cropping and didnt like it so much. Thanks for the comments and advice!
Hey, your repost looks good, Cliff; I like it a lot. If I may suggest: at the horizon to the right of the island, there's still the bright area that was caused by the sun. Probably want to clone that out too; then, it's a REALLY good redo. I still like the original post, too.
