Duck Pond
I've been lurking around the Nature Photograpers site for over a year now and have finally done the honest thing and paid up

As a way of introducing myself I went back and picked something from the archives from this time of year. This one was actually taken a litte north of East Tennessee where I live. I tend to take most of my photos from places other than where I live. This does not make much sense because this area is beautiful. I guess it's just an excuse to travel.

Anyway, this is from a place called Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, which is a restored Shaker community near Lexington KY. We stayed there a couple nights early in 2008.

I'm always interested in honest feedback, so let me have it.

Hey Richard ,
A new poster reformed from being a lurker huh :-D I really like the interest of the 2 sets of ducks going in different directions. I wonder if you took some photos without the rocks showing at the bottom edge? I think they are distracting. Also I don't think the sky is adding to the appeal. I do like the water section with the ducks and reflection.

Thanks for the suggestions Leann. I went out for the sunset and found the ducks as a bonus. They turned out to the the best part of the shot. I like you suggestion of losing the rocks, unfortunetly I didn't take any and cropping them out will not work on this shot. I'll try cropping out some of the sky -- there's too much of it.

Welcome aboard, Richard! What luck to have the ducks pay you a visit for sunset. I agree about cropping some of the sky and think the image could use a little more sharpening, but it's a very enjoyable scene. Looking forward to seeing more!

Welcome Richard always good meeting new folks from the area!! I'm just north of you. I agree with the crop that Lori and Leann suggested and the image seems to be just a tad bit soft. Welcome aboard!!

Welcome, Richard. That's a beautiful photo.

Here are a couple of suggestions that haven't been mentioned. Please keep in mind, these are gentle suggestions, not criticisms:
- The water looks like it has too much contrast on my monitor. You might try to tone it down.
- You might try to lighten up the far bank so that some details show. This is more of a personal preference...I like to do this in my shots with sky above, water below, and land in the middle. There are several ways to do this...I won't mention them here unless you're interested.

Thanks again for publically joining our merry band of maniacs.
