Hope you are all well. Would anyone have any ideas how to get sand out from behind the play button on a D300 without taking money? It happened on a recent trip to shoot seals and needless to say, it was very windy and boy does the sand hurt at speed.
I must admit I'm more worried about the camera than me !
I have tried constantly pressing and mashing the button to dislodge any sand but to no avail so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I once put a tube into a vacuum cleaner tube end and narrowed it down to a small aperture a bit bigger than the button I was trying to clean. I pushed the tube over the button.
On full power there was a srong suck and I seem to recall it worked.!
You can blow as well with a compressed air can.
Don't blame me if your camera explodes !!
I don't think I would ever take a camera on my pension to Donna !
Cheers

It doesn't sound like there's an awful lot you can do if it's behind the button, other than dismantling the camera Rather you than me.
It may come to nothing and work it's way loose eventually, rather that than goiung further inside the camera where it may cause problems.
You've only got three options really.
1) Ignore it and hope it works loose or breaks down.
2) Take the camera apart and clean it
3) Send it in for a service and clean.
If you think it's just perhaps a single particle and the camera is still fully operational, I'd probably just ignore it and keep my fingers crossed.
If the camera got pretty covered with sand and you think there's a good chance more might have worked it's way into the camera, I'd get it professionaly cleaned A.S.A.P.

I've had sand get under the focusing rings of lens barrels and can be a pain, but in my experience eventually grinds down or works it's way loose, never had any technical problems from it, i'd say probably just keep using it
