Hi Paul. I like the diagonal angle where the rose is pointing, but the center of the rose is close to the center of the image - making a less dynamic composition. My favorite part is the leaf curving back around, very cool. The colors are a bit flat, you may want to add more contrast. Lastly, I'm not in love with the theme. As a viewer, I know that roses don't naturally lay on the snow like in your image which leaves me wanting to know why the rose is laying there.
Yes, definitely good. Much much better than what I was doing at 300 pics

Okay, I'd say that for 300 photos it ain't bad. Getting snow to be white is not obvious and you have it white so you're doing fine in that regard.
The depth of field is not bad, the flower is in focus but the stem and leaf is out of focus, that seems good to me.
As far as comp goes, it's not bad. The flower is the focus, me eye moves back up the stem but then is thrown back into the frame by that curved leaf. That's actually real good. The texture in the snow to the right of the flower is good.
Generally, the photo is good but obviously pretty beginner. I'll bet you look back at this photo in six months and laugh at how far you've progressed.
Hi, Paul. This is definitely a fine shot for a new shooter. The color of the rose is great considering you had snow for a background. The details are in focus right where they need to be. And kudos to you for dialing up manual mode and firing away. Keep it up. And welcome aboard.
