The Green Anole (Anolis allisoni) is one of the many reptile inhabitants of the Cayos Cochinos Islands in the Caribbean.
This is a completely wild specimen that I encountered during my herpetological field trip to the islands in order to help my colleague with his "Hog Island' Boa constrictor research project.
" Once dubbed as "diamonds in the rough," Cayos Cochinos is a small archipelago off the northern coast of Honduras. Located in the northwestern Caribbean just south of Belize, they lie at approximately 15 55' N, 86 30'W "

Good close up Brett.
Brings back memories. Used to keep Anoles. Great little fellas. Would have been good with the throat pouch out.

Having heard tales of how you spent time chasing this animal around a bush, I would say it was worth the effort. Well done.

Thanks guys.
John, it would have been great to see it's dulap but it gave us the run-around and there weren't any others for it to perform to in this particular location. I understand that they will perform to a mirror reflection but alas I do not carry one in my camera bag..! However, lesson learnt and when in such a location again I will be sure to pack one..
Kind regards,
Brett

Brett,
I think this is a fantastic shot, loads of detail and the lighting is wonderful. The brighter area in the top left is a bit distracting, but it's a minor nit

Very nice shot, sharp, and the dappled light looks nice. Maybe eye contact would have imrpoved it a little?

Thanks for sharing this Brett, I have never seen a shot of one of these before (actually, I don't think I have heard of them before as I am not really into reptiles) however, your image makes me want to find out a bit more about them!
Lovely image, I like the pose and I don't think the lack of eye contact detracts as it looks like it is alert and looking around to me, but as I said I don't know anything about this reptile!

Hi Folks, thanks very much for your kind comments. The lizard was in hunting mode and and so it was difficult to get that eye on a plane with the sensor, furthermore it was above my eye level which is why I couldn't get it's foot into the frame either.. Still we try and take advantage of what we can is such situations and I'm glad you enjoyed the encounter too..
Kind regards,
Brett.
