This post contains 2 topics that have cropped up recently, the first is the more bemusing but slighly worrying from an operational perspective

1) People implying they have the 'authority' :wink: of The UKNP Forum.

This bemuses The Mods in that we are curious as to what authority The UKNP Forum actually carries :biggrin:; that said, we will take a very dim view of anybody incorrectly implying, or eluding, that they represent The UKNP Forum. The only people who represent The UKNP Forum are The Mods and Jim and Donna Erhardt. If you are contacted by somebody/thing claiming to represent The UKNP Forum, please get their name and let us know.

2) People asking questions by non-forum communication

Many thanks to everybody for refraining from putting the location information about the subject within the thread. This is something we would like to see continue as we believe it helps minimise disturbance.

That said The Mods have had a increasing number of, again bemusing, comments about people contacting the initial topic poster asking questions, such as the location, about the pictures posted.

The Mods would like to point out that The UKNP Forum is part of a Nature Photographers NETWORK and as such that you should not be surprised about being contacted by fellow member UKNPers; this can be beneficial for all members.

We have however some thoughts we would like you to consider when deciding whether to respond to such requests.

1) The first is, as always, for the animal/location in question and if an increased presence of photographers (or a photographer) is a wise thing - this obviously is a judgement call that you have to make. It may, in part, be influenced by what a photographer writes on this forum.

2) Such requests (per individual) should be reasonably infrequent if the photographer does their own field work. Those that inundate you with questions for locations probably either a) don't do their own ground work or b) 'want to get somewhere fast' therefore, consequently, are unlikely to be able to return the favour; see point 4

3) Look to see how frequently the requestor participates via UKNP. You can do this either by;
a) clicking on the persons name on the topic home/summary pages as this shows all the topics thay have started or,
b) clicking the 'all posts' icon at the bottom of their replys which shows all their replys by date.
If they are not participating frequently the chance is thay are just taking and not giving. See point 4.

for above all else The UKNP Forum works by ...

4) Quid pro quo as the norm. Please do not expect to take and not have to give. One of UKNP's strengths is it's network so don't let those that don't participate prosper.

Finally, The Mods are really not interested in taking sides in any external altercations or in the 'he said, she said' tittle-tattle that exists. Thankfully our influence is simply limited to The UKNP Forum and its operation. Unless your concerns pertain directly to The UKNP Forums operation, or the typed content contained within, there is little we can do other than listen/advise/sympathise.

Cheers
