Moon Over Santa Monica Mountains
Early morning dusk shot.
Just looking for some processing feed back on this one. It's unfinished. Took this one Sunday morning. Trying to make out what little bit of fall color there will be this year around here. this is the view looking down a slope.

Steve, the scene has some real potential. As you stated you have not finished processing yet, so no final conclusion at this point in time. I will say I'm a big fan of near and far setups, however, the FG tree/branch looks like an obstacle in this one to me. Otherwise, this comp looks really good overall.

Thanks Paul, I was just looking for some kind anchor in the wild chapparel hillside ecosystem. The finished product or almost finished is in ESS.

I must say Steve, the difference between the version here and that in ESS are quite striking. I'd be interested to hear any insight into your workflow (if you're willing).

Well, you'll have to sign up for a workshop for that now Greg. j/k. I've been to workshops and had the instructor not mention stuff he's advertised to show. Not even after mentioning it.

I'm willing though. Lots of localized contrast adjustments. The laso tool combined w/ feathering some layer masks work wonders. I adjust the oppacity in the layer masks a lot. Tony Kuyper's luminosity masks work well too to a certain extent. His tutorials mention using curves adjustments w/ the mask but I often use levels w/ the masks sometimes too. Regardless, all of my adjustments are made with non destructive layers. Maybe a little bit of imagination of what Ansel's zone system would show the tonalities as. Then in the end hoping that in a few years I'm hoping I won't hate the end product because it looks like some Thomas Kinkaid painting peice of garbage that I won't like because I learned what is acceptable in the art community. Sorry, I'm torn between that and the digital graphic artist photography world. I'm sure you know what I mean since you photograph moving subjects that have limitations not evident in landscape photography. I probably bend enough rules as it is though and will always be torn.

You know what was the worst part of the morning I was shooting here. Seeing all the ducks fly by showing off their aviator skills and me not being able to capture it.
