Soldier beetle on sentry duty 2
40D, Sigma 180mm, ISO400, 160@f8, -1/3, tripod, cable release. Cropped top and left.

One from earlier in the year (a different version of which I posted then). Got me a Specially Commended in the National Insect Week photo comp.

C&C welcome.

Great shot indeed Greg !
Such a pity about the second straight stem in my opinion.
Good stuff.

Hi Greg,

Very nice, agree with JR re the stem. Lovely contrast between the green of the grass and the BG, with the striking orange of the Beetle.

A worthy winner of a Specially Commended, Well done !!

Regards

This is a very nice capture. I agree with John though, about the straight stern.

Top draw macro Greg - personally I'm not too bothered by the straight stem though I do understand where people are coming from.

Well deserved plaudit :wavey:

I too agree about the straight stem in the ideal world but the orange and greens contrasty so well and the pose is great. Congrats on the deserved commendation
