Dream Lake (from August)
Hello All,

This is my first post, but I've followed this forum for several years. It's always one of my favorite stops on the web.

Here is a picture of Dream Lake back in August that I just recently scanned. I'm really behind on getting film processed this year and it looks like 2008 will bleed into 2009 for me. It had to be the most spectacular morning I've ever seen there. I've been to Dream Lake probably a half dozen times since August and despite the snow, weather, wind, clouds, etc., the sunrise has never been so spectacular. This particular morning wasn't without it's challenges. Namely the gale force winds, so I just tried to make the exposure as long as possible to blur the water. Hopefully I'm not buggering up trying to post an image here on the forum.

Shot with Wehman 8x10, Nikkor 150SW, Fuji Velvia 50.

Really nice, Jeff! I bet it was exciting to experience this sunrise. I think the water works well with the diffuse reflection.
If there is any way to open the shadows up just a tad on the right, it would be over the top!

Beautiful colors. The edges of the frame all seem really dark though, almost like there is just some extremely strong vignetting going on. I also think that by maybe cropping off a large portion of the bottom would help the composition out since there isn't much detail to look out there and it distracts from the fantastic lighting on the peaks.

Jeff,

I think we have talked before. Nice to have another LF shooter in the group.

Are you coming to the Shindig on Jan 17?

This is a great introductory shot Jeff.

Sure is some beautiful light and color on the peaks. As others mentioned, you may want to try and open up the shadows a bit.

Very nice capture. :toast:

Very nice first post!, the light on Hallett's and the clouds are beautiful, I think I would try to open up the shadows a tad to really make the image pop!.

Interesting perspective and I love the way my eye runs back to the white cloud in the gap. Very nice!

Great light for sure. Personally, I like the vignetting. Maybe the shadows can be opened a little bit as said above. I would suggest cropping a little bit off the bottom too. Welcome and nice first post Jeff!

Sweet shot! In this case I think that the pitch black shadows and dark lake are helping set the moody mysterious feel of the image. Very unique from most of the other shots I've seen from this place.

Thanks for all the kind remarks and feedback. I do agree that it looks really dark, especially so on this linux workstation that I'm currently on - insanely so, in fact. I don't remember the original scan looking so...umm...black! If I'm honest, I'm not really a fan of this composition, but the red color keeps making want to do something with the image.

Anyway, happy to be interacting with the .net crowd.

That's some sweet light you got there. I'm in favor of opening up the shadows too. Welcome to the forum, Jeff!
