Red Grouse, Bingley Moor, West Yorshire, September.

This was taken early one morning in September, just as a thick mist was clearing. The original image is very desaturated and low in contrast, I like it, but prefer this one with the contrast and saturation boosted. Mist is a great way of getting clean backgrounds

I was trying to convey that this is a very big and muscular bird.

The techs
20D 300mm 2.8 x2 tele conv. F8 1/320th ISO 800. Almost FF. Usual in Lightroom and CS4, plus contrast and saturation boost.

Comments much appreciated

Hi John,

I think this is very nice indeed.
Great viewpoint, good head turn, a really nice backdrop and I like the three rocks running along the bottom of the frame too.

Rather like John, I now feel in need of a wee dram. Worrying at 9.00am. Seriously, a lovely shot.

John, sounds like you're on to a winner advertising wise!
Do like the colours and pose and the way the rocks look like stepping stones out of the frame

"I was trying to convey that this is a very big and muscular bird" - looks like you reached your objective. A very impressive bird and a great photograph too. Love the complimentary colours of the diffused BG and a nice turn of the head.
