Cottingham Waxwing
Hi
Found 9 Waxwings on my "door step". They where sat hi in a tree an coming down to feed in a Rowan Tree. Unfortunatly the Rowan was in the shade so I had to "crank up" the ISO to 600.

D200
Sigma 500mm f/4.5
ISO 600
Matrix metered

A good one Dave, I like how the head is on a diagonal, also the streaking of the background imparts a dynamic feel to the shot. :toast:

The size police will be after you though - 720 pixels for the longest size not 950+

A waxwing shot unlike any other - well done. Would like to see it cropped to landscape and the eye "brought out" a bit more if possible.
Really, really like this. Top stuff.

Gotcha... you will write out 1000 times, 'longest side is 720 pixels' and hand them in tomorrow morning - no using a wordprocessor either .

Seriously though, please do keep to the size limits as it makes reviewing the images easier for everyone - not all of us have 30" monitors.

Always nice to see Waxies  - the Bg looks to have a touch of a bluish caste to it, might be worth playing around with the colour balance to reduce it a touch. As to being in shade, the shadows of the berries look well defined to me!

Interesting that a lot of the waxwing shots posted so far have been on ornamental rowans with yellow berries and not the native red berried trees

Sorry Nick, will remember the sizing in the future,

I've not had the pleasure of seeing these lovely birds in person yet, so any image is a bonus.

This is a lovely shot and to me, looks almost painted rather than photographed.

The moment caught just right and set against a nice backdrop with a kind of painterly effect. :toast:
