I have heard that in Shropshire, a group of people were seen stripping all the remaining berries off the rowan trees on a large supermarket car park and loading them into bin liners. Waxings had been reported on the site just prior to this.
I understand the berries are used to enhance or create various types of beverages and jellies which are much admired on the continent.
Any one else heard of this ?
Shame if the Waxwings arrive here to find their food nicked,
Coincidently I heard a very similar story from someone I know just yesterday evening.
They were saying how one particular holly tree in the New Forest was full of thrushes on the Monday. They returned on the Tuesday hoping for a good photo session and to their suprise the holly tree had virtually vanished. No doubt for Christmas decorations and wreaths.
Hopefully the thrushes found another decent food source before too long.
