Hi everyone, this is my first posting here, so I hope I'm doing things right. First off, I've got one question as to how the forums here work: do you generally post photos for critique in the regional forums (like this one), or in the gallery section.. or do you switch it up, what's the idea behind the two venues?

Ok.. now on to the photo. This was taken in King's Canyon NP last monday morning after a storm dumped 12 inches of fresh snow on the park. I drove in sunday evening via a backroad, and luckily still managed to get out after all that snow fell! For the rest of the story, and more photos from the adventure see my blog here: http://artinnature.wordpress.com/

The Tech: Canon 5D, 24-105mm f/4 L IS @ 58mm, tripod
Exposure: iso 100, f/16, 0.4 sec

Floris, hello & welcome to the CANP forum. :wavey:
Very nice to meet you on line here. This is a wonderful first post here at NPN/CANP. I can only imagine how neat it would have been to be out there during this snowfall. The trees were the real draw to this scene no doubt and have been enhanced IMO with the snow very nicely. The colors and textures are just super.
To try and answer your question overall, many will post a regional or California image here for a preview prior to or simultaneously with another gallery here at NPN. In this case I would think you would want to post this eventually in ESS maybe. Typically you will get more viewing traffic in the other galleries, but we all enjoy seeing images posted here in the regional CANP forum very much too. Thanks for sharing this very fine image here first. :toast:

Excellent Winter image!!! The redwoods covered with snow make a great subject with very nice texture and color contrast.

I have been looking forward to getting up into the High Sierras. This is one of the first shots I have seen from this season.

Also if you post a link place these tags around the link without spaces: [ url ] [/ url ] like this:

The story on your blob of the trip and images are really great as well! It is nice to hear the story behind the photos sometimes like you did here so well.

Thanks for posting!

Hi Floris, great to see you here. I am familiar with this trip of yours by now. I sure wish I had been there, too.

This is a fine image. Strong verticals and the dusting is very refreshing!

Floris,

Welcome to CANP and to NPN. You have an impressive body of work and we're glad you're here. In addition to Paul's comments, the regional forums can and have been used to potentially arrange shooting with other local photographers, getting to know one another, etc. And as he mentioned, many will post an image here to help them decide whether or not they want to post in ES&S, or other galleries. But there's no requirement or rule to do so - just sharing amongst friends. The ES&S gallery is the most popular and thus gets the most visibility and potential for comments.

Your image is beautiful! The dusting of snow on the Sequoias is wonderful and the simple colors of red, green and white make for a great combination.

Welcome aboard!
Lon

Beautiful first post Floris. Welcome to NPN. I love how you brought out the reds in the(Sequoia's?) trees. The dusting on the sides really brings out the texture there. To add to shat Paul and Lon have mentioned the ESS gallery gets a lot more traffic than here but if you love California you can post one here everday and you can't do that in ESS. Since there is less traffic here I like to post some occasional expiramental stuff here or something not yet processed. Well, I checked out your blog/website and found it very interesting. You've got a wide assortment of photography to keep a viewer interested for more than a few clicks. Hope you're enjoying the rain, I'm enjoying it out here in Thousand Oaks not too far from you.

What a striking image! Color rendition is excellent and I love the way that snow-covered conifer stands out against those wonderfully arranged trunks. Good stuff and I look forward to future postings.
