San Juan Storm Clearing
Haven't been shooting much lately, but I'm trying to change that. Went out this afternoon to get some shots of the latest winter storm clearing in the San Juans. It's the first glimpse of the sun we've seen in a while. Upon arriving to the mountains, I immediately remembered why I hate trying to shoot clearing winter storms...you just can't get around. All the parking areas, pullouts, etc. are not plowed so there's nowhere to get out to search for comps. For this shot of Twilight Peak I just got out of the truck in the middle of hwy 550 and set up the tripod. There was no other way to do it. Fortunately, traffic was light!

Very nice, indeed! Dramatic light and weather complement a gorgeous scene. Looks like you owe Todd some royalty money for the clouds...

Nice to see something new from you, Guy. This is gorgeous and really captures the essence of a clearing winter storm in the mountains. I'm glad traffic was light this day!

I have SO wished I could be down in the SJs for these recent storms, but glad to see you got something spectacular out of it. Encore!

Hey, several feet more on their way! Looks good, Guy, just be careful standing in
the middle of the road

I like it! Very nice capture Guy! Must try the middle-of-the-road technique.

Guy, very nice image. I love the light and mystery behind the clouds as a rising mountain. Beautiful composition and I am also guilty of stopping in the middle of the road  Great job as always.... regards, Rajeev :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast:

Great light and composition!
Get you an orange vest and a traffic cone or two, and folks will think you're a highway worker or avalanche cannoneer (Canoneer? ) and give you plenty of leeway.
