Mountain Gazette magazine is sponsoring their second annual Mountain Dog Photo Contest.
Unfortunately, their website has no link to it, so here's the copy right from the latest issue:
"Whether it's shots of your best buddy in front of a stunning mountain backdrop, or an awwww-inspiring canine character shot, we invite you to submit your images in one of these two categories: Dog(s) with Folks (with people in the frame) and Dog(s) Alone.
We will award prizes for Best In Show in both categories, and also in the sub-categories of Action, Scene and Pose.
Deadline for submissions is midnight, January 9, 2009. All submissions must be made electronically to artworks@mountaingazette.com Limit two submissions per person (or dog). Only mountain dogs doing 'mountain' doggie things in the mountains will be considered. Winners will be published in the February issue of Mountain Gazette."

In fact, this image in particular struck me as a good one.
