1D2n, 600mm f4 is x1.4, 1/800s, f6.3, iso 400
This is an alternative image to the one I previously posted. The "lump" is just a piece of ice, but I like the way the bird seems to be interested in it. I've actually lowered the saturation on this!
Went back to the pond in great light yesterday, managed a few images before my lens collar stuck. Now I can only take upside down images over Christmas. No doubt Canon will be closed for a couple of weeks!

That,s a great shot Ian but I am undecided about the "blob " It seems to distract from the surreal effect that is the overal message coming from this image. That,s just my opinion though. Lovely stuff.

an excellent shot. I think I'd prefer it without the blob but no big deal.

OK - sans blob! Nothing else cloned by the way.
OOPs - posted wrong one before this!

Cracking shot Ian. I want the blob back - for me its a bit like a Hitchhcockian Macguffin - what it is doesn't matter but it is necessary for the composition and adds a bit of intrigue.

Cripes theres some light hitting that!
Another cracking image Ian! Although for me, this one isn't as good as the last one! Still very very good though, that red eye and shadow detail perfects the image.
The ice puts the "icing" on the cake, so to speak!
Sorry to hear about your 600mm F4! I've been in a similar problem recently, when the release pin on the mount in my 1D MkIII jammed half open and I couldn't get my 600mm F4 off.... Eventually managed to get it off and had the camera sent away on Warranty. It came back yesterday morning and now it won't read compact flash cards!!! Back it goes. Hopefully back in time for February

The light is exceptionally strong in this shot, although a fantastic shot of a moorhen.

Hi Ian,
Both are superb, the lighting and the BG are very special indeed
Andy...
Super image!

Both images are fantastic, awesome colours, I think I like the one with the mystery blob the most.
