First 'Winter' Sunset of the season
We finally got some snow recently so I decided to head out and get some winter pics. Actually I went out to take a sunset photo on the Solstice, thought that would be kinda cool...except when I got home I realized I was a day early...

This shot was underexposed to hold detail in the sky and create a moodier shot. I shot bracketed exposures for an HDR image, but I liked the darker foreground myself so just went with this single exposure.

Scott, I like this the sunburst is a nice effect, I also like the shadows created in the foreground with the darker exposure. Nice work.

Great shot, Scott. I think your decision to go with a single exposure was a good one. I really like the light grazing the top of the grasses and ice on the pond. Very appropriate for a winter solstice, even if you were a day early.

Nice image Scott. Great golden tones. The flares around the sun are an interesting effect too.

Nicely done Scott. You handled the exposure very well. I know I'm bias but one things for sure, the winters in Kansas can be beautiful.

Nice contrast Scott! The visual effect is very good. By the way it will be useful for many members in this forum if you could let us know what precautions need to be taken while shooting the sun.

Scott, the golden glow on the ice and the sun beams make this shot for me. It looks cold!

I like the golden glow and sparkling reflections you captured. Just another beautiful sunset in Kansas!

Often a blown-out sun ruins an image, but here the symmetrical and interesting shape of the blown-out sun, as well as the light rays radiating from it, save it. Beautiful image, but I think the proportions could be improved if you cropped the top down to just above the clouds. Anyway, you might try it to see what you think.
