I watched this harrier (from the car) standing on one leg on a fence post preening for what seemed an eternity, during which I took a large number of shots and got serious arm ache, waiting for the take-off that had to eventually happen. And it did and I got lucky with this shot.
Enjoy and do have a happy and productive New Year.
Sweet shot! Esp the cropped version ~ puts all of the focus right on the bird. Awesome!

That second shot really works for me. Nice catch and good patience.

Oops apologies John, I didn't even see the thread, I guess I was in Europe at the time. Sorry.
Here you go, the Fall edition of Nature's Best magazine just came out today, at least in my mailbox.
Thanks for all the interest. It's a tough contest and I didn't think this was my best picture but there you go! With competitions you never can tell what they will like.
I do best with sleeping animals!

Very nice Bill! I don't think you got lucky, you waited it out. Good patience.

No need to apologize...this was worth the wait!
Thanks for posting it, Bill.

I agree the crop is better, and I like the second one a lot, too. Like Jack said, I like his eyeballing you. Congratulations again on your selection for Nature's Best. That is a high honor indeed.

Great harrier shots, Bill, likewise the bear. Nature's Best is quite the honor.

The second and last are wonderful!
Will we ever get to see the image alluded to in this older thread?
