I thought I would start posting some shots here. Now that ski season at Mammoth is in full swing, I'll be making many more trips through the Owens Valley/Mojave Desert. These drives used to be all about getting from Simi Valley to Mammoth in the shortest possible time (without getting a ticket). As my interest in photography continues to grow, so does the length of the trip. I now plan the drives to take advantage of as many sunsets as I can. This is from Red Rock Canyon a couple of weeks ago after it rained all day. The rain really brought out the red. Wondering if the comp/processing work.
Thanks for looking and comments.

Rudy, a very nice first post indeed. Kind of interesting look down through this arroyo toward those distant cloud formations. The cloud formations have some really nice pastel colors to complement the reds in the gorge here as well.
I would be interested to know if there is any lodging in the general area of Red Rock Canyon. Looking on line and the maps that are provided do not show anything within about 20 miles of this site. Let me know your thoughts on that if you can, Rudy.
Paul, there is no real lodging in the area. Mojave is about 35 miles south. Nothing is west. East is Randsburg and Johanasburg, both old relic towns worthy of a photo trip alone, but no lodging that I know of and about 20 miles away. North is nothing for a long while, except for turns that get you to California City and other very small desert towns, too far to consider for the purpose. You have to camp somewhere or use an RV of some sort. Plenty of opportunity for that in the Red Rock campgrounds or anywhere in the Last Chance Range and El Paso Mountains next to the Red Rock park itself. I've been to all these places extensively.
Thanks Jeffery. That was my kind of take on the situation out there. I know of old Randsburg & Johanasburg. I actually had a co-worker who had a parent who lived in one of those burg's. Of course I also pass both of those going and coming up & down 395 on the way to the eastern sierras. But, I have yet to visit Red Rock Canyon and I had looked into it a couple times only to realize exactly what you have outlined here for any type of overnight visits. Thank you again.

Paul, there's a lot of nice areas to explore at red rock. Definitely worth the effort.
Thanks Rudy, it appears to be a place to hit at some point in time.

I like the mixture of colors and contrast of textures captured here. The double processing looks very realistic as well. I can only imagine how much more impact the details in this image would have in a large print compared to this web version. Nice work!
