Snow In Sandy
THis is what it looks like here. close to 3 feet of snow, and 6 ft drifts across the driveway. Power out for close to 3 days. thankfully, i have propane heat, and am charging laptop off the inverter in the car, once i dug it out.
But, of course, I'm out on the snowshoes taking pictures.

These are unedited other than quick sharpening as i have minimal battery power.

Hope everyone is staying warm.

Merry Christmas to all!

This sure is quite the snow storm. There is nearly a foot of snow in downtown portland which may not be like the 3 feet in sandy but still very significant. The city is entirely unprepared for this sort of weather. Many of the streets are unplowed even downtown and many of the bus lines have been cancelled so the city is partially shut down. We broke a 40 year record for portland set in 1968 which had 11" of snow. Last time I heard it was at 11.5" yesterday morning but we may have gotten another inch since then. After that the record is 1950 with 15". The coldest temperature ever recorded in Portland was also in 1950 at -3 degrees F.

I'm sitting at work and it's really dead today. We just don't know what to do with ourselves when we get this much snow. I love weather variation, so I'm enjoying it. I'd probably sing a different tune if the power was out though!

Wish my house looked like that. Finally, real Christmas weather in the NW!

Marc, you're welcome to come take some snow anytime.
Bring shovel , dump truck, and hot buttered rum.

Good grief! Now that's a pile of snow!

The snowshoe trips sound grand, though!

Our family is postponing all Christmas get-together until some weather sanity is restored! So I'm online with all of you... Happy holidays to you, Sandy! and to all!

PS - THis was enough for me! Moved back to N. Ca in Feb 09. Have been aiming to do that for the last few years anyway. I will go to Tahoe when I want snow, thanks - then come home again to sanity.

I wouldn't trade northern Oregon for any where else in the world. This last storm was a rare one and we usually have mild winters. I kind of like an ocassional snow storm. California just doesn't cut it for me.

I agree with Erik. After living in CA most of my life (except for the pass 16 years ) I don't want to trade their weather for their amount of people. This was really the first year out of 16 this had this amount of snow and it still wasn't a big deal. The rain is worse, but being packed into a cage as in SoCa or the Bay area no thanks. I also like thing to be green in the summer - not brown...

If your families were here, as mine are, you might feel differently. Family is more important to me than climate. I'm on private 2 acres here, on a river, in the country, and definitely not "in a cage," so your assumptions are very incorrect.
The snow may not have been a "big deal" for you people where you are, but we on Brightwood had no power , heat, phone, or water for more than 5-7 days and people died. You chose what you wish, and allow me to, also, please - without condescention.

I didn't know you lived in Brightwood or had family in CA. Brightwood does get snow more frequently than areas west... Your righ though, each to their own. Your post sounded like the storm was the final straw. Just sounded a little drastic to me.
