I recently learned about the availability of a new DVD documenting the history of the Buffalo River - produced by Larry Foley, a two-time Emmy award-winning filmmaker, and professor of journalism at the University of Arkansas. The November screenings at the U of A sold out in November, and more than 350 folks were in attendance when it showed at the Clinton library in Little Rock. The film will make its statewide premiere on AETN in March. For non-residents of Arkansas, here's a link for information on how to order your very own DVD: http://www.uark.edu/ua/buffriv/.

I don't know if they showed it at the screenings or not, but one extra that is included on the DVD is the original film that was shot, narrated, spliced together, and shown around the region to hundreds of groups by none other than the great Neil Compton himself. I think they simply photographed the screen while this movie played so the quality is very poor, but of obvious historical value none the less. Many of the scenes in Neil's film were taken during the famous float trip with the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, William O. Douglas, and shows the Chief Justice nearly getting his nose ripped off as he ducked to float under the Ponca Low Water Bridge!
The main Buffalo Flows film is terrific, with some of the best video ever shot of the Buffalo area - all in HD. Larry (and his film crew of one) did a great job to capture the essence of the Buffalo River, including the history and scenery. And the special song/music video included by Dale Carpenter is wonderful as well. Well worth $22...

Bill, that looks pretty cool.
Thanks for digging up the information, I'll be ordering a copy. That'll save me another trip to the Buffalo...I'll now be able to experience it from the comfort of my recliner.
