Hi everyone. I took this this spring after our only real snow last year. It seems fitting for the season... Nikon D300 and sigma 24mm 2.8 mf.
It is a blue ash(Fraxinus quadrangulata) in a cow pasture in central KY.

Welcome. This image has some competing elements that make it very interesting. I like being challenged to sort out why an image works for me. Rather than work that hard on a holiday I'll just say that I like this image. After looking at your website I'm looking forward to more of your posts. Have a great holiday.

Thanks Ken, I too find it interesting, technically the tree may be a bit too centered, but when I crop it differently it is not as striking to me....

Rules are made to be broken, Joe, and in this instance, the centered tree is okay. I like the silhouette against the blue sky.
Welcome Joe. Like the image. If you like we have enough snow to share. I do wonder what the object on the horizon at the base of the tree is? Not picking just currious.

Welcome aboard. This looks like a shooting location that you could use frequently and end up with a different picture each time.

great shot,,,centered tree is great in this instance.

Thanks everyone. the object on the ground a tthe left of the tree is simply a branch that had fallen.
Welcome to the forum...lots of drama to this shot!

Welcome to the MWNP! I love the dramatic presentation here. Stark colors and a lot of really nice texture in the FG snow. I'm wondering the same thing as Chuck - did you take any of the sunburst against the tree?

Thanks everyone, no I did not take one with the sun directly behind the tree. I would have if I'd realized the image was as striking as it was. The LCD in bright conditions simply did not do it justice...
I'll wait til the next snow... it's only 3 miles from my home...
