Stoat(Mustela erminea}
Taken today in some lovely light and it beats going to the sales any day.
As I always say one of my favourite Mammals and am chuffed to bits to get this as close as I did.
Caught it dragging a dead Rabbit across a Wheat field. It panicked when it heard the engine and dropped its prey and shot off like a rocket.
Decided to sit it out and wait to see if it would return. It did so at least three times and frantically searched for the lost prey(at least I think that is what it was doing) It was hyperactive and very difficult to lock onto. It even ran under the car and two minutes later it came back past the back end.
Four hours well spent and hope I can repeat it some day. :smile: :smile: :smile:

great shot, did it not find the rabbit again ?

It was a Rat Lea and no it didnt find it.
It would keep dashing backwards and forwards and the other thing it did was to lick and smell every bit of twig and grass. Licking is something I have not seen them do before.

the last time i see one of these was years ago.was walking along the edge of the railway and thought i see somthing run into a bush.i waited about 5 mins then it popped out about 3 meters away from me, stood up on its back legs and had a good look at me. i fired of a few shots then it ran back into the bush and came running out with a young rabbit off down the tracks lol. i couldnt belive how fast it was running with it in its mouth lol.

These guys are fascinating. That's a nice shot major especially as the light looks a little awkward.
