You may or may not appreciate this.
My brother in law came over for Christmas and showed us some pics (like they do ! )
This is of course a Donna job
Taken with a minolta compact !
I asked him about what aperture etc - he said what's that ?
I must go out and buy a 5 grand lens tomorrow !!
Think about it.

It's like this gent in some other forum said: "Whenever people ask me what camera I'm using, I say it doesn't matter: it's me who takes the pictures, not the box". This photo here is proof.
Happy Holidays!
Hans
PS: What's a "Donna job"?

Now lets see how good his goldcrest pics are with the compact, John!
Hans is right, the camera is just a means to an end. Didn't somebody win a category in WPOTY with a compact shot of a robin. It's all about having an eye for a picture, I guess. Eric

it looks like a pretty good shot too, just goes to show that we can all get a bit too hung up on the gear we use. I still have one or two shots taken with my non-DSLR 'bridge' camera that I'm pleased with.
Hans, John was referring to Donna Nook - the site in the UK where the vast majority of seal images are taken.

Right Eric. ! There are some things they can't do. (You could stuff the goldcrest ! )
I forgot to mention- he took a bit of seagull poo out of the top right under my guidance.- hence the mistake.
It is interesting though. My wife has a Kodak compact and it does great flower close ups and landscapes. It has more pixies than my first Digital slr
Cheers

The usual thing is"You must have a good camera" or "You must have a good lens".
I always reply "You can have a bloody expensive gun and still not hit anything with it"
That normally dampens the issue somewhat.

A pleasing shot, maybe bit more space on the right for them to look into

Thanks for the clarification on the Donna issue, Matt!
