Another cascade from today, shot with a 14mm zoom lens - first time I've been able to get the cropping that I've wanted with this scene - hoping to get some good floods this spring once the trees green up to get rid of that bright sky.

Ahh, the highly regarded 14-24mm no doubt. Were you able to rig up a polarizer - sure don't see much glare here...

I do have that big old movie camera polarizing filter sitting in a box somewhere with the special adapter/holder for these super wides - I need to go dig it up and put it to use. Didn't use it today - it was kind of weird lighting. I've only seen jpgs straight out of the camera but so far, so good. Even Reichmann finally made a comment about it - "In a class by itself" - but he wouldn't say anything until Nikon gave him a free copy - he doesn't seem to be a good source for honest opinions any more - seems like he is much more manufacturer driven than he used to be since he won't say anything unless they give him a free copy (although I do agree with him on this comment). I am tending to trust the likes of Lloyd Chambers - who buys all of his camera gear at retail. And also Bjørn Rørslett (for Nikon stuff) - he has it all and seems to be a straight shooter.

Tim-

Very nice!! Great scene and that 14mm really works great here.

Nice photo Tim. Looks like if someone doesn't do some repairs pretty soon the roof is going to fall in?

Actually I think the roof has been "restored" recently, or at least since it came under the jurisdiction of the park service - they don't like roofs falling in, even on private property! Some wood buildings in the park have all but fallen in completely, and most of what remains is a new tin roof to protect the bones...

Tim: Terrific capture. I love all the fine details. A lot to look at and enjoy. Why not just crop the sky? >=))>

That super-wide comes in handy. A polarizer wouldn't have helped out for much with the light yesterday. Very natural "not overly processed look" and a very sharp web quality image!

It's just a jpg straight out of the camera so no processing at all. And the building needs some headroom to breathe so cropping the sky would not work. Much rather do another image in the spring with nice greens all around anyway - of course, I've already got a few just like that but who's counting...

Tim, glad the water is back! It alway happens when I am out of town. It looks like the your new camera has really nice detail.

Hey Tom, I expected to see you emerging out of some whitewater yesterday...

I was in Memphis visiting relatives when the big storm hit but I think there was a group on the "Hailstone Run" today. By the way, did you know the Hedges were on the original "Hailstone Run?" The group got caught in a hailstorm and decided to use Hailstone as the code name for the upper Buffalo run. Rumor has it that the group thought the run was too tough for most paddlers, so they decided to keep the real location a secret in the article they wrote about their trip.

I was just looking at the Arkansas Canoe Club site and it looks like the Boxley gauge peaked around 10ft. about 9pm on Saturday night. What time of day did you take the shot of the Boxley Bridge that is posted on the journal? I bet Smith Creeke was cranking also. I hope some of this hangs around for a few days!
