Pygmy Shrew (C?)
Almost certain this is a Pygmy,(smallest Euro mammal) by the colour separation line on the flanks and size, but not 100%. Tiny thing - about 2 inches body length
- and boy are they fast !Running around on the greenhouse floor so captive I suppose. They need their own body weight in food an hour so almost impossible to keep. mealworms will keep them in a spot for a while though.
Not a photo masterpiece but a hard subject
Standard lens
800ISO big crop.
Cheers

Never seen one of these and like the shot with the shadows. I'm at work and on an odd monitor but there seem to be some blue tinges on its back end?
In terms of food it sounds like its Xmas Day every day for these guys!

Really like this one John and as you say, a very difficult species to photograph, well done on a fine image.

Can I also add how incredibly envious I am, the number of species that visit your garden is amazing.

Andy...

Thanks both.
Magnus - yes you are right, it is a little blue on the highlights. To be honest the pic is more for interest, as the conditions were bad and results were not the best I,ve done ! I didn't really think it worth messing. !
Maybe I will.
Cheers

Thanks for showing; takes me back when I was a child and collecting the PG Tips British Wild Animals set of cards. The picture of the pygmy shrew was my favourite. Never seen one in the flesh :frown:

Hi John,

Great shot. I've seen them rarely over here but never photographed one.
Something different.

I like his little red nose. He must have had a very boozy Christmas
