Took this this evening after a somewhat uneventful day.
Nothing seemed to happen so towards the end I was getting desperate for a fix. Hence the settings that I would not normally attempt.
On a really bad note it seems that once again the Barn Owls are struggling to catch any amount of food.
This was one of three all up together on an area of land they would not normally cover.
D3 + 600mm AFS II + 1.4 conv.
1/80 @ f5.6
ISO: 5000.
Ex Comp -0.3EV.
WB: Cloudy.
Colour Space Adobe RGB.

Although the compo is nice and good, the high ISO makes its less.
Lovely bird.

Although apparent, the quality of this at 5000 iso is incredible. To my eye, as someone who always bemoaned the quality from 400asa HP5 it is simply amazing what can be achieved today. There seems to be a bit of a halo on parts of the bird, particularly around the feet but otherwise a very good example of a Barn Owl.

Major,
Gorgeous composition, just a pity about the high ISO. Still a nice capture. Cliff

Amazingly good for the ISO and I like the way the thicker branches frame the owl

You can only take the pictures that circumstances allow and high iso or not, you have to admit that it was pressing the button on or you wouldn't have bothered keeping it. They seem to be very obvious at the moment everywhere. Maybe it is because the days are so short that dawn and dusk are fairly close together? I don't see why there should be a particular shortage of voles. I like the comp on this one Major. Eric
