This is just a quick hand held snap with my D100. It will be a couple of weeks before I get my film back.
This is the meadow opposite Curry Village.
It was absolutely beautiful there.

Gorgeous Dan!!! That is what I am talking about! I love the frozen trees in the foreground.
I have been waiting for the first Yosemite Winter shots of the year to be posted here on CANP.
So how was the drive, weather, croud, etc...? Did you stay in the park? Please do share more. As you can tell I am a little excited about getting up there. Man that snow looks deep and FRESH!
Thanks for posting a killer open season photo!

We arrived at about 2:30 Christmas day. We had heated cabin reservations in Curry Village.
Even though we were in a 4wd drive SUV, we still had to put on chains. I was glad we did. There was a lot of snow and I'm sure that just 4wd wouldn't have gotten me in and out of some parking spaces.
The park was just beautiful. There was already about 2 feet of snow in the meadows and we got another foot the night we arrived.
From the unpreparedness of the staff in handling things, I think that this is more snow than they've gotten in some time. Snow laden trees and branches were threatening to fall all over Curry Village and it kept the staff quite busy.
It was just gorgeous there. We were sorry to leave.
I can't help you with inexpensive places to stay. Harley Goldman has a big Ford pickup with a real camper on the back and he stayed in the campground. He'll probably re-appear here in a day or two.
My friend Michael Gordon calls Yosemite "The Happiest Place on Earth". I have to agree with him.

CRAP! I knew I should have gone. Tough leaving the family the day after Christmas though.
Dan, this is beautiful. I hope you got this one on 4x5! The snow on the oaks looks so thick it's like hoar frost. Personally, I really like that the foreground snow is mostly in shadow as I think bright snow would have detracted.
Wish I was there - glad you were able to enjoy it. Looking forward to seeing your images as well as Harley's and Jimmys.

Dan,
Thanks so much for the extra info. I need to pick up some chains for sure before heading up there.
What a nice way to spend the holidays with such pristine conditions - very surreal. I remember skiing before on Christmas Day and Thanksgiving when I was a bit younger and didn't have as many family responsibilities. That was a great time fun for sure.
It sounds like there was/is at least half a dozen CANPers up there to welcome in Winter. So we should be seeing more images soon hopefully.

Sweet... I love the way those sunlit snow-covered oaks standout in this image. I'm sure your 4x5 version will include a little breathing room near the top to include the top of that mountain face. Good stuff!

Dan, that really is a cracker of a photo - I envy you having the opportunity to capture it! Cliff
Beautiful one, Dan. This prelude only gives even more to think of what is to come from the 4x5's. We all look forward to those too, Dan.

Ditto here too Dan.
I'm wishing I could have made it out there for the first good winter snow. Cant wait to see your next shots!

Incredible Dan. The light on the snow is just in the perfect place. I wish there was a little more balance between the granite walls on both sides of the frame, but otherwise awesome stuff.
Good for you, Dan. I was there Friday through Monday, and it was the best I have ever seen the park. I am home now, yet still stunned by the beauty I saw there. Looking forward to your other images.

Hey Nelcha, I hear you! I knew it was going to be good as well. But family priorities came first over the holidays.
Don't worry, the Winter has just begun. This weekend is supposed to get a little more snow as well...
