From this afternoon. I put out some whole peanuts, and set up this perch, when a jay came down into the garden two days in a row. He visited several times, and was able to carry/swallow a large quantity of nuts. Light wasn't brilliant- this is ISO 800. I was inside in the warmth of the kitchen (behind double glazed french doors).

This is about 30% of the original size (I had just taken off the teleconverter, as his side-on view was too big in the frame, and he immediately presents his smallest profile...).

Nikon D200, 500mm P (f/4, 1/250 sec, ISO 800), Manfrotto 055 and 393 gimbal with 2kg of lentils in a bean bag on top of the lens to keep down vibrations.

Nice pose Ben which would have been better with more depth of field obviously. Not a lot with a 500 at f4
The right bits sharpest though.

Very nice shot Ben at least its not head on which always makes birds look a bit odd. :toast:

Nice one Ben, not so sure about the square crop and it might pay to give it a bit more contrast. It looks like you may have lost some shooting through the glass. I like his attitude and the light in his eye. They are such beautiful birds.

I have been shooting through my double glazing recently and find I have to up the contrast considerably. Never the less, I would have been pleased with this result!

Good shot. Is he looking at the food?
Or is he waiting for you to give him some.
