While journeying North to find and photograph the Yellowstone wolves, I found many wolf people. Actually found three such groups. What a fun bunch. Join them in the Lamar River Valley, Yellowstone National Park. By the way I was fortunate to see 2 wolves. Sadly too far for my equipment. But I enjoyed them none the less.

I was there a few years ago and saw 5 wolves hanging around a buffalo kill in Lamar. I got a capture of one but even with a 400 mm it looks like a micro-wolf. Next time I will rent a 600mm. They are something to see in the wild.

I was there last winter, with a "Yellowstone in winter" workshop with Dale Franz. We were fortunate enough to come upon a fresh buffalo kill with a wolf pack on it - less than 1000 ft away. had to take OFF the 1.7 on my 500 mm. Just incredible. We were there shooting for 2 hours.
You hit the jackpot, Sandy.. Great shots! I've been there in January and saw a bunch but none close enough. In Sept, 3 years ago, I watched a herd of about a dozen elk run for their lives, when a group of wolves suddenly appeared above them on a nearby hill south of Canyon. Never before have I ever seen elk really run at top speed, pretty impressive. The wolves just moved on and didn't give chase.

Nice Sandy! Great action shot! Even after croping, my micro wolf is about a third that size. I thought about posting but I don't think it will hold up quality wise.
