Ed Wow what a beautiful shot and to shoot him out your LR window, to cool That 600mm sure came in handy also for a great shot.

What luck Ed, could be a good omen for 2009. You really have nice detail, especially the eyes.

That is quite the view you have from your living room :). Well capture, and I hope your luck in 2009 continues.

What a success story, bald eagles that is. I'll never forget the first time I saw one in the wild, it was flying over the Missouri river right in downtown Kansas City. I had to do a double take to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.
Now I see them with some regularity, but rarely close enough to photograph. There will be a bunch of "eagle days" presented in Kansas over the next month. Last year I learned that in Kansas alone, nesting eagles have successfully fledged over 300 eaglets since 1989. Some of those fledgling are now themselves nesting in an ever expanding area in Kansas.
Just great to see these magnificent birds without having to travel to Alaska! Thanks for sharing this backyard shot Ed!
What a great shot of a very majestic bird. Lucky guy to have one of these come so close to your house.
My husband runs/bikes very frequently at Lake Perry and Clinton Lake (both close to Lawrence, KS), and he always makes sure to tell me how many eagles he saw while there. It is not uncommon to see them, especially during the winter months. Of course, it seems anytime I go with him with my camera in tow, they disappear

Great shot - especially when you figure in the location.

What a great view Ed. As Wayne mentioned here in January and February these magnificent creatures become more apparent around here. I'm looking forward to it. Nice job.

Yes Larry, it was the D300. I needed the extra crop for this image otherwise I much prefer the D3 of course.

Happy New Year!
Why can't they just cooperate and give us a break by sitting on the right branches!!?
