LaSalle Canyon waterfall from the other side
Having talked up Starved Rock State Park (north-central Illinois) in another thread, I thought I'd try to provide a visual hint as to why. This is a more conventional view of the waterfall at the head of LaSalle Canyon--the same waterfall I shot from behind as an HDR. This waterfall isn't always flowing--I've been at LaSalle Canyon in the fall once when it was dry--but it does flow most of the time. The morning I was there this past October followed a day and night of occasionally very heavy rain, ensuring that water would be coming through.

Kerry, thanks for sharing this additional perspective. This is a beautiful scene, and a lovely composition. The FG pool is a bit static for my taste. If the pool was flowing into the leaves more, it might help move my eyes into and beyond the pool more naturally. This is a minor distraction to a very beautiful scenic well captured.

Kerry-

Nice image and I would echo all the positives about Starved Rock SP. Great little park along the river. Several nice canyons that are neat in most any season, some of which are fun little hikes too.

Note there are two other nearby state parks worth a visit too. Buffalo Rock (?) across the river from Starved Rock and Matthiessen SP which is only a couple of miles south of Starved Rock. Matthiessen is also sometimes the dells and has a few nice waterfalls and canyons too.

If you like the lodge experience there is a great one at Starved Rock with an awesome stone fireplace.

A great place to eat is to take US 6 to the west side of Peru and visit The Igloo. Tasty pork tenderloins in a little ol' cafe.

Kerry, the rich colors you captured on this day really bring out the charm of this canyon falls - one of my favorite places.

The recent rain and melting snow pushed a lot of water through the canyons of Starved Rock, and the dells of Matthiessen. This flushed a lot of debris out out of the canyons, but it also brought new debris in from their respective watersheds. Anyone with an interest in rock hounding will now have a new crop of glacial till to ponder over.

Another nice shot like them both. We get some snow again and I will have to get up there.

I like both views, Kerry...I'd have a hard time deciding which is better.

This certainly works, though your earlier post strikes me as more creative and possibly a bit more personal. I'm not sure that I'm sold on the mid ground foam swirl here, it tends to keep my eye there a bit longer than I'd like. Regardless of my preferences, it's certainly well done Kerry.
