Oaks on New Years Day
Hi All,

Happy New Year! Sorry I haven't been around much--life is, well...life, you know. Much thanks to Paul for minding the store!

Well, I have obtained a DSLR! What?! An old LFer shooting digital?! Yep. It will be a nice adjunct to my 4x5 work and will have a place in my photography. So, here's a shot made yesterday with my newly acquired Nikon D70 with 24-120 Nikon zoom.

Cheers!

Glad to see your post. You will like the instant feedback, and (almost) unlimited shooting in one card! It's a whole new experience.

Preston,
With all of your LF skills, I'm sure you'll have fun with the D70. Best Regards.

Wow Preston,

DSLR - man what are we going to do with you now?

OMG.....another film shooter experiments with the dark side. Well, I'll just have to tune up my Coolpix 4300 and see about this. First thing I noticed about this photo was the highlights and shadows don't mix right with the white balance  next, the histogram looks like it is still hisssing in this scene  additionally, the pixels look like they are piggybacked and still pixelating.
Oh well, I could'nt resist having some fun, that's why I'm here. :jump:
Image looks fine to me, Preston. Enjoy the new gear and we always look forward to your posts. :toast:

Good move, Preston! I began transitioning from 35mm film in 2004 to digital. In 2007
I shot my last roll of film.

Nice shot, Preston. So, I suppose now that you're "digital" we'll see more of you on the site

Mor'n likely. But, let's be clear: 4x5 will always be my first choice.

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

The first step down that slippery slope. Your feet have gone out from under you and you are about to land on your ........

Preston,

Glad to see you made it out of hibernation. I'm tempted to toss out the word "traitor," but I know if I had the opportunity, I would have a dslr too, so I can't razz you too much. Just don't be flashing that lcd screen too much in front of me next time we go camping!

Oh, and you've posted a nicely composed little oak scene. At first I thought it was something you captured with the Fuji 160 neg film, as the contrast seems about like that. I might be tempted to tone down the highlights and increase the contrast a tad, but that's minor.

Nice image and glad to see you back.

An old LFer, Uh oh.. . I though I wouldn't see that again. You're funny. Looks like you just stepped into some risky biz. I remember when I made the swop from 35mm to a D70. Your current set up doesn't seem to match up comparison wise. The easier experimenting might make up for it on the D70's end.
