I have a New Year's resolution to print a "Best of 2008" portfolio using one of the online publishers. So far, Blurb is at the top of my list because of their large size option, and a lot of photographers appear to be using them.
I'm wondering if any of you attending the RMNP Annual Shindig have used Blurb and would be willing to bring a book to share?
Or, is there anyone in the Denver area with a Blurb book sample?
Thanks.

Bill,
I used Blurb and printed my Best of 2008 with a paperback cover, the prints (about 18) are great but the paper is pretty thin, its more like a pamphlet than a paperback. I can bring it along. It was cheap though, around $20!

Bill,
Yes, I'd very much like to see your book.
I was thinking about using their thicker paper option.
I'd be very much interested in seeing their print quality on the thinner paper.
Over at Travel Photographer's Network we used Blurb to publish our "Around the World with TPN" promotional book. It came out really well and I'd be happy to let you puruse it for a bit. I also used Blurb to do a Honeymoon book for my wife and I. Very nice and intuitive layout.
Making sure you find the printing profile to proof your work helps - I didn't on the honeymoon book and it is a tad dark in places.
I can't make it to the shin-dig, but if you want to meet up just drop me a line:

Aleksei,
Yes, I'd like to see the TPN Blurb book. Did they use the heavy paper and the larger format?
Send me an email. There seems to be a problem with your address.
I can't connect to it via AOL or through this forum's email link.
I am working on a book too and am curious about publishers, looks like I will be talking to you guys alot then

I had a hardcover book done by Blurb with their premium paper and it looks excellent. If I make it to the shindig, I'll bring it along.
From what I've seen posted on other forums, it seems that for photography, the premium paper makes all the difference.

Hope you can make it to the party, Bob.
I've heard the permium paper is worth the extra cost, but it sure would be nice seeing it first.
I won't be able to make the Shindig (I'll be in Rome instead. Oh well, when life gives you lemons... ) but I've had a book made by Blurb before for a vacation my wife and I took in 2006. I was quite pleased with the quality of the print and paper. I was concerned there would be a lot of dithering giving the pictures a comic book or color laser look but the quality was pretty good. The book I had made was the big book with premium paper.

Bill, I also received a book today from a friend made by Mypublisher.com so I can bring that too.
I'd enjoy seeing the Mypublisher copy as compared to the Blurb one too. I will probably do one to display some new images at my gallery.

I met with Alex today and got to see the TPN Blurb book and also his Honeymoon book.
The print quality was impressive, especially since neither was printed on the premium paper.
The only negative that I observed was the printed cover on the TPN book.
The hardcover material really highlighted fingerprints in the darker areas.
In comparison, the paper cover on Alex's book looked far superior.
So, thanks again Alex, I now feel comfortable in proceeding with my own book plans.
I'm still interested in seeing other books that anyone wants to bring to the Shindig.
