Buzzard in flight x 2
Just like to say Happy New Year to all on the forum and to thank everyone for their critique and comments over the past 11 months or so I've been visiting this site.
I couldn't get out much over the Christmas/New Year period due to family commitments etc but yesterday had a couple of hours at one of my favourite hides. Unfortunately the frozen pond proved unattractive to nearly everything except for a very brief showing of a Water Rail which I missed and this Buzzard.
EOS 40D
Sigma 500mm
exp 1/8000 @ f5.6 iso 500 (ridiculous I know, nearly two stops underexposed but I'd been playing with new camera when this one suddenly appeared.)

Good head on approach, and would stand a little gamma increase maybe.
Good stuff though
John R - and all the best to you.

Another from the same sequence.

For me Robert I prefer the 2nd shot, this gives more space for the Buzzard to fly into. Under the conditions you mention, you managed to capture some great detail especially on the eye. 1st image is good too:toast:

I like both, but prefer the first.

Also like both but prefer the second, the bent wings give more impression of motion and its looking into the space in the frame. Good result and hope you have a successful new year with the new gear
