Despite having a 500m lens on hire over a Christmas I did not get out as often as I would have like, but when I did, wow what a piece of kit!

Taken at Potteric Car using the 500 with a 1.4, slight crop, let me know what you think.

Have a great 2009

Nice Pose Ian but it looks a tad soft on my screen.

I might have gone for lower POV too.

Quite soft Ian. It takes a while to get used to handling a 500mm (even more so with a 1.4 extender attached) and it looks as if the dreaded camera shake has spoilt this image. You don't say what shutter speed you were using but it looks as if it should have been faster.

Certainly camera shake Ian, need to support that big beast at the best of times  Would like to have seen a lower POV if possible.

Sorry got to agree that its a tad soft and camera shake is the most likely cause. Keep at it and you will nail it but it takes a while

Sorry too, a little soft Ian, although looks to be at least part due to a slower shutter speed than perhaps you would have liked given the blur in the moving foot. Position in the frame is great and you've done well to get one this much in the open. Keep at it, have to say that adjusting to bigger lenses does take some time - I'm still getting used to 400 and 300 + 1.4x / 2x

Thanks for the comments, yes I do agree that I need to work on steadying the camera. I would of liked a lower angle of veiw but this was an oportunistic shot from a bird hide at Potteric Car were I think he is a regular below the feeding station at No 4 hide. If you are in the area I would love to see your results.

PS the hide is usually full which could be the biggest photographic challenge.
