Nuthatch taken in the garden yesterday. Got really cold after sitting for several hours. They were back and forth all day (a pair). They seemed to head straight for the feeders without settling on the branch much, so I considered myself lucky! Hope this was worth it?

Very nice detail Fran and I like the pose.

Your efforts are paying off Fran with some very nice detail in the bird.. You might think about swapping that perch for some lichen covered Elder or something.. Will give it just that little more something and make for a great setting.. I would dearly like to see these in my neck of the woods but alas, I'm lucky to get starlings, doves and pigeons with all the cats that are here..!

a nicely composed shot with lots of detail. I agree that a nicer perch would improve the image.

A great shot Fran with loads of detail, the perch though is a little clinical for me.

Nice one Fran.
Agree about the perch., Try getting a stump and rub some pastry mix into some crevices. It tends to keep the birds around longer.

Like Brett, I am envious of you as we rarely get these in our part of Kent.

Thanks for the hints and tips everyone. I am currently working on a plan for the perch, just not sure how to set it up yet
Love the pose and a well composed image. A new perch will add the finishing touch.

Agree with Justin, nicely taken Fran.
I also saw similar behaviour in some nuthatches at an established feeding station I visited a week or so ago. I wonder if it might be habituation to the site - knowing where the food is, that it is safe etc?
Just remembered I left a couple of photogenic twigs I'd picked up in the back of a friend's truck yesterday - doh!

Fran
I would suggest forgetting a perch and go for a substantial stump. They just look better on them.
