I booked myself a trip June 17-21 to Jackson, WY to do some shooting. It will be my 5th time back there. Any of the Triangle, or any others, want to join me?

Are the mule's ear and other flowers blooming in the flats around then?

WANT to?

I would LOVE to, but unfortunately, I cannot make it.

Thanks very, very much for the offer, Scott.

P.S. I live in Florida, but my sister lives in Raleigh. If I get up there to visit, I'll give you a buzz and hopefully we can go out early.

This time of year usually will find peak wildflowers in different park areas. Each area is hit or miss week by week.

I already have reservation (using FF Miles) arriving around noon wed and leaving around noon Sun. We can share a rental car although you may want one if we end up with different shooting goals on a particular day. Hotel is the El Rancho which is about $100/night via Expedia. Colter Bay cabins are cheaper but there is little food or other conveniences out that way. El Rancho is very clean and within walking distance of downtown Jackson. Many of the photo workshop groups use El Rancho. My photographic goals for the visit are to retake some of my favorite locations in Medium Format digital and do some HDR shots.

Tentative Sunrises
Thu-String Lake area for Mt Moran Alpenglow
Fr-String Lake or Wildflowers near Antelope Flats or Small Lake near Triangle Ranch (below Shadow Mt)
Sat-Wherever Scouting leads me (possibly Grand Canyon of Yellowstone which is a very early morning for a long drive (1-1.5 hour) more likely Moose Junction
Sun-Schwabecher Landing or Snake River Overlook

Tentative Sunsets-No Particular Order
-Grand Prismatic Springs in Yellowstone
-Signal Mountain Overlook
-Morman Row & Wildflowers

These are roughly my shooting priorities and depending on weather I may only get part way through the list. I usually shoot 30 minutes before sunrise until the light goes bad, scout/explore, eat good burgers, scout or rest, then shoot later afternoon until 30 minutes or so after sunset. Sunrise and set are pretty early/late that time of year (5:40am & 9:05pm). As long as it is not completely overcast there are always some great sunrise/set locations. If overcast there are some great mountain stream and lake locations around Jenny/String lake and plenty of wildflowers. Sometime there are Moose around Jackson Lake marshes or Signal Mountain. Hopefully my Medium Format 300 would be sufficient. I will not be taking any wildlife gear this trip. I don't think I have ever had a bad trip out there no matter the weather. It's still my favorite shooting getaway.

Lance,
Yes, let me know if you make it to town. There are several of us on this board in Raleigh.
